Children's Activity Days
Bringing History to Life at Strata Florida Our Children's Activity Days at Strata Florida will be interactive and can be delivered in either Welsh or English. Topics include the history of the medieval abbey and the lives of the Cistercian monks, the Mynachlog Fawr Farmhouse, hands-on archaeology experiences, and the environmental impact of the nearby Abbey Consols lead mine.
Schools and families outside of school hours are invited to come and learn more about this important cultural and historic site. Why not bring a picnic to enjoy afterwards in our picnic area or Y Beudy? The Visitor Centre will also be open for hot and cold drinks and snacks, and you also visit the Abbey and the Mynachlog Fawr Exhibition. Strata Florida Guided Tours
During 2026, we will be running regular guided tours, in English and in Welsh, led by one of our knowledgeable staff who will tell you about the history of the Abbey, the Princes of Deheubarth, the lives of the Cistercian monks, the dissolution and the beginnings of Mynachlog Fawr Farmhouse, and the history and impact of the nearby Abbey Consols lead mine.

The Building Stones of Strata Florida Abbey
Thursday 7th May In early summer 2026, we will be holding a special talk looking at the building stones of Strata Florida Abbey, their composition, origin, transportation and use, with a guided walk around the Abbey to see the stones in situ, led by an expert in the field.

Craft Fayre
Sunday 24th May 10am - 4pm On Whit Sunday, we will be holding a Craft Fayre at Strata Florida, with stalls of local crafts, arts and produce, activities for children, guided tours and lots more! We welcome locally made crafts, food stalls, or live demonstrations so if you are a local craftsperson, artist or producer and would like to have a stall at the Strata Florida Craft Fayre, please complete the form below. Community Archaeology Open Day
Saturday 11th July, 10am-4pm Every summer, during our Archaeology Field school, which takes place between mid June and mid July, we hold an Archaeology Open Day, where you can come along for tours of the dig, led by our archaeologists, and get some hands on finds cleaning experience and also enjoy a cuppa and a cake too!

Cadw Open Doors
September 2026 Date TBC In September every year, Cadw hold a series of Open Doors events around their sites in Wales, and this year Strata Florida is proud to be taking part. Look out for guided tours of the Abbey led by our staff and volunteers, and possibly by a Medieval Lady, a Monk and a Pilgrim!

Strata Florida Pilgrim Walking Festival 2026
Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th September More details on specific walks, routes and grades will be available soon but you can register your interest now if you'd like to come on some of our splendid walks around the unique landscape of Strata Florida. |
Mining in Ceredigion Wednesday 30th September 10am-4pm The Metal Mines Programme run by Natural Resources Wales and the Mining Remediation Authority aims to protect and improve the water environment for the benefit of people and wildlife by achieving cleaner rivers and contribute to the sustainable managements. Strata Florida is working with the Metal Mines Programme to inform and educate visitors and the community about the nearby Abbey Consols Mine. Join us for a day of talks on the history and impact of the industry on the local landscape, culminating with a guided walk up to the mine itself. |
Christmas Carol Concert
Wednesday 2nd December, 6pm Our annual Christmas Carol Concert with Choirs for Good will take place again this year in lovely St Mary's Church, with refreshments and a warm welcome afterwards in Y Beudy. No need to book |
