Excavations have been running at Strata Florida for 20 years, and the Trust now runs a public dig open to all.

We offer a fully accessible training programme, including a wide variety of archaeological excavation and survey techniques, from understanding how to correctly use a trowel to the collection of geophysical data for archaeological mapping. We offer a mixture of residential courses and day courses, and we welcome people of all ages, those with no prior archaeological experience as well as those wanting to build upon previous skills.

Ours aims to be the most inclusive archaeology school in the UK. We work with wellbeing and mental health support partners to deliver onsite support to participants. Our mission is to share Strata Florida’s unique history, archaeology, heritage and links to Welsh culture with as diverse an audience as possible, including members of the public, students, volunteers and others.

Strata Florida Archaeology Field School 2026 Site Supervisor (residential)

We are looking for a site supervisor for our 2026 field school, with responsibility for participants and day diggers, and helping in the smooth running of all aspects of the dig.
Duration:  Sunday 14th June to Monday 15th July 2026 
Working Week: Tuesday to Saturday (and Monday evening induction)
Salary:  £125 per day, food and camping accommodation included (Self-employed basis)

Come and join us for our full four weeks of excavation!

Whether you are new to archaeology or looking to gain some practical experience for an educational course, we can tailer your experience to meet your needs. During the day you will be a part of the excavation, learning a range of skills from the Archaeology Skills Passport (BAJR), including troweling, site survey, finds processing... and more! In the evenings may enjoy a lecture on the site or a local walk. On Sunday we devote the day to multiple trips in the surrounding area to help you see more of West Wales and to place the site in the surrounding landscape.
